Families of prisoners
We introduced a Family Workshop for the families of the course participants. It is a full day in which we go through a very shortened form of the course we offer in prison. This gives the families an opportunity to have their pain heard, to receive prayer and counsel, to have an opportunity to share with other families in a similar situation and to go through a process of forgiveness and healing. This also prepares them for meeting with their loved ones at the end of the graduation ceremony, and be able look at forgiving one another, receiving forgiveness from one another, and restoring relationships.
Once a prisoner who has completed the Heart-Work Course has been released and has approached us for further support, members of the team will continue to interact with them and with their families to help with the process of reintegration.
This can often involve helping the family deal with:
- the anger and pain caused by the events leading up to the incarceration
- unspoken expectations of both the families and the released prisoner
- support, education and help with parenting children
- building and mending relationships
